We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time In-House Counsel/Attorney to direct the day-to-day functions of risk management and quality, safety management program of Christian Health. Assures compliance with applicable regulations and legislation. Acts as a liaison to attorneys and insurance companies. Demonstrates an understanding of, and embraces, the mission statement of Christian Health.


  • Oversees litigation matters, including coordinating with external counsel, managing discovery, and providing strategic guidance on legal disputes.
  • Conducts training sessions for staff on relevant legal topics, including compliance requirements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develops educational materials and resources to promote legal awareness and understanding across CH.
  • Provides accurate, relevant and timely advice to Leadership and other members of staff (as directed) on a variety of legal topics.
  • Manages and mitigate legal risks by designing, implementing, and updating CH policies and procedures on industry-specific issues, corporate governance and/or regulatory affairs.
  • Promotes legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
  • Reviews and drafts institutional policies and forms.
  • Provides information to the CEO and the President & COO on governance issues, as well as health care and other applicable laws and regulations that can then be provided to the Board of Trustees and its committees.
  • Builds and maintains strong and effective relationships with business partners.
  • Assists in healthcare mergers and acquisitions, assisting with joint ventures, partnerships, employment arrangements, management agreements, lease agreements, and related transactions.
  • Assists in Guardianship litigation
  • Provides assistance to Human Resources as they conduct and oversee internal investigations of all level employees
  • Drafts and negotiates a spectrum of corporate and transactional documents, including operating agreements, management agreements, employment/independent contractor agreements, purchase agreements, leases, and billing services agreements.
  • Provides legal and strategic advice to Executive Leadership Team.
  • Oversees the Corporate Compliance Program and Committee.
  • Provides advice in regulatory areas such as, for example, HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, Stark law, Anti-Kickback Statute, Affordable Care Act, human subjects research, FDA compliance, and clinical conflicts of interest.
  • Provides support to SR VP Marketing/Strategic Planning/Government Relations with advocacy efforts regarding the impact of federal and state regulatory proposals and support the adaptation of or additions to relevant university policies and processes in response to enacted statutory or regulatory changes.
  • Assists Finance areas with collection matters and working to resolve concerns with payer sources, Medicaid, Managed care provider, as requested.
  • Provides assistance/counsel to the Materials Management/Contract Services area with contract management functions and review.
  • Interacts with Marketing and Crisis Management tea.
  • Acts as a legal advisor to Christian Health.
  • Keeps abreast and disseminates information on new regulations.
  • Administers the risk management program on a day-to-day basis. Responds to risk management concerns and participates in reporting and investigation of compliance activities.
  • Participates in management of incident lawsuits, investigations of complaints, and review of regulations.
  • Prepares risk management monthly, quarterly, and annual statistical reports for senior management team, appropriate committees and Board of Trustees.
  • Works with the Christian Health Marketing team in crisis management.
  • Work with healthcare, employment, general litigations, and labor matters for clinical, corporate and support services.
  • Assist in responding to government/regulatory inquiries in a timely and accurate manner.

Experience : Minimum of 3 to 5 years providing legal and business counsel in a health care environment. Experience in regulatory compliance that includes, but is not limited to HIPAA, Medicare, NJ Department of Health, skilled nursing home, assisted living, personal care home health, and ancillary healthcare services such as rehabilitation regulations.

Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm.

Education: Juris Doctor degree (JD) from an accredited law school. Bachelors degree in a health related field preferred.

  • Licensed to practice law in New Jersey.
