Position Summary


The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus.

The Department of Anthropology and Sociology at Western Carolina University invites applications for a one year (nine-month term) Visiting Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024. The Visiting Assistant Professor will teach a 4-4 course load within Western Carolina University's undergraduate anthropology program. This position is open to all anthropological specialties, but candidates with backgrounds in archaeology, biological anthropology, bioarchaeology, and/or forensic anthropology will be given preference as the primary courses to be taught will be related to those specialty areas.

Western Carolina University's anthropology program is known for its undergraduate forensic anthropology program as well as its archaeological collaborative work with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI).

A Ph.D. in Anthropology or a related discipline in hand at start of appointment is preferred, however individuals that are ABD and/or with completed master's degrees in anthropology may also be considered.
